About the association

The Association of Norwegian Chambers of Commerce is an umbrella organization on behalf of the various chambers of commerce in Norway in their international activities.

Chambers of commerce are member institutions with the aim to promote trade and represent interests of the business society, in national as well as in international issues.

There are 12.000 chambers of commerce worldwide, which constitute a mutual network for business contacts and facilitation of international trade.
Chambers of commerce are regional, non-sector based organizations. In many countries submitted to public law with obligatory membership for all companies, while in the Nordic countries, the UK, Canada and in the USA chambers of commerce are private organizations with voluntary membership.

In Norway there are currently 15 chambers of commerce.

 

The main tasks of the association:

  • Participate in the establishment of new chambers of commerce

  • Participate in national and international fora where subjects related to the activities of the chambers are being discussed

  • Develop and contribute to a cooperation between the chambers where necessary, with regards to their service procedures

  • Establish and further develop a natural cooperation with the various public authorities and business societies in the country as well as between the chambers themselves
